Dr Jason Woodgate

Jason Woodgate

Biochemist. Molecular biologist. Structural biologist. I study how transcription and translation couple in bacteria, and I build tools for the scientists doing the work.

Science from first principles, software from frustration.

I am a postdoctoral research associate at the Centre for Bacterial Cell Biology, Newcastle University. Trained in biochemistry and molecular biology, my research focuses on the coupling of transcription and translation in bacteria, using structural biology to understand how the ribosome and RNA polymerase coordinate during gene expression.

I also build software. BenchCalc started because I got tired of the same bookmarked websites with their loading screens and ads. FeeDings! is an RSS reader. Influence is AI-powered interactive fiction. All made by Feedings Ltd, a small UK company I founded.

BenchCalc

55 tools. 414 glossary terms. 13 protocols. 7 troubleshooting wizards. Offline. No ads.

The lab companion I wished I had at the bench. Calculators, protocols, reference tables, a glossary with molecular structures, educational content, and lab safety guides. All in one app, all offline.
